Come with us to Zarisas monthly chiropractor appointment at @Inervachiropractic 💙🌈
One thing we’ve learned as autism parents is that finding providers who truly understand your child can make all the difference.
We’ve been bringing her here once a month this is her second time, and honestly, it’s one of the few places where she isn’t forced, rushed, or made to do something she’s uncomfortable with. They take the time to earn her trust, explain things in a way she can understand, and work at her pace. During this visit, she was very sensory seeking. If you have an autistic child, you probably know exactly what I mean. Sitting still in a waiting room can feel nearly impossible some days. She wanted to move, explore, touch everything, and run from one thing to the next. That’s not her being “bad” or “not listening.” That’s her nervous system seeking the sensory input her body needs.
I know from the outside it can sometimes look like a child is just being hyper or poorly behaved, but for many autistic children, especially sensory-seeking kids, it’s much more than that.
What I appreciate most about this clinic is that they understand that. Instead of expecting her to fit into their environment, they adapt to her needs. Her chiropractor even gave her a little skeleton model to hold and explore while he worked with her, and things like that make such a huge difference.
As her mom, all I want is for her to have positive experiences with healthcare providers and not grow up feeling scared or traumatized by medical appointments. Every child deserves patience, understanding, and respect.

As a parent navigating healthcare for an autistic child, I’ve found that the environment and approach of the provider can drastically impact how our little ones respond to treatment. Many autistic children experience sensory processing differences, which can make traditional healthcare settings overwhelming. In my experience, choosing a chiropractor who takes the time to connect and tailor care to the child’s sensory needs is invaluable. For instance, allowing a child to hold a comforting object or explore small tactile items, like a skeleton model, helps build trust and reduce anxiety during treatment. This sensory engagement is not just a distraction but a crucial part of meeting their neurological needs in real time. It’s also important that providers never rush appointments or force children into uncomfortable positions. Gentle pacing and clear explanations help children feel safe and respected, which can lead to better cooperation and outcomes. Regular chiropractic care can support not only physical well-being but also contribute to calming the nervous system in sensory-seeking autistic toddlers. I’ve noticed improvements in my child’s ability to sit calmly and engage post-visit. Most importantly, these positive healthcare experiences foster a lifelong trust in medical professionals, which is critical for ongoing care and intervention. If you are a parent of a sensory-seeking autistic toddler, seeking out specialists who understand and honor these unique needs can make a profound difference. Sharing our journeys and tips within autism communities helps us all find resources and providers who genuinely make a difference for our children’s health and happiness.
