Reading keeps me sane 🫶🏾

2025/8/16 Edited to

... Read moreIt's true, isn't it? That feeling when the world outside melts away, and you're completely absorbed in a story. For me, reading isn't just a pastime; it's my anchor, my escape from the everyday chaos. My original post just scratched the surface of how deeply I feel about books keeping me sane, but I wanted to dive a little deeper into how you can also embrace reading as a powerful tool for well-being and growth. Many of you might be wondering, 'How do I actually get myself to read more?' Or 'How do I even start reading if I haven't in ages?' It’s easier than you think! The key is to make it an enjoyable, low-pressure experience. Don't feel obligated to finish every book you start. If a book isn't grabbing you, put it down and pick up another. Life's too short to force yourself through a story you're not loving. This simple shift in mindset can make a huge difference in turning reading into a genuine pleasure rather than a chore. To truly get into reading, think about what genuinely interests you. Are you into thrilling mysteries, heartwarming romances, fascinating historical accounts, or perhaps thought-provoking sci-fi? There's a book for every taste! I often find that short stories or novellas are a great way to ease back into the habit without committing to a massive tome. Even 15-20 minutes a day can make a huge difference. Try setting aside a specific time, like during your commute (if you're not driving!), during your lunch break, or right before bed. Make it a ritual, and soon enough, reading books will feel like a natural part of your day. You'll find yourself looking forward to these moments of quiet absorption. Beyond just escapism, which is incredibly valuable, reading also offers a fantastic way to elevate the mind. I've discovered so many new perspectives, learned about different cultures, and even improved my critical thinking just by delving into non-fiction or challenging literary fiction. It's like having a constant conversation with brilliant minds throughout history, expanding your own worldview with each page. For immersive escapism, I often turn to fantasy or historical fiction, where entire worlds are built for you to get lost in. It's a wonderful way to give your brain a break from your own reality without actually leaving your comfy chair. Another tip for those looking to make reading a consistent hobby: join a book club or follow book reviewers on social media. Seeing what others are passionate about can introduce you to genres and authors you might never have considered. Don't forget about your local library! They are an amazing resource, and you can often borrow physical books, e-books, and audiobooks for free. This is especially helpful if you're on a budget. Plus, keep an eye out for Bargain sections at bookstores or online sales; you don't need to break the bank to build a great personal library of beloved reads. Many online platforms also offer free e-books or samples, making it easy to experiment. Ultimately, the pleasure of reading books comes from the journey itself. It’s about discovering new ideas, feeling deep emotions, and simply enjoying the quiet companionship of a well-told story. Reading isn't just about consuming words; it's about connecting with narratives, understanding different lives, and finding a deeper connection with yourself. So, if you're looking for a way to find a little more sanity and adventure in your life, pick up a book. You might be surprised at how much it changes your world and helps you stay grounded.

That’s exactly how I feel about reading. I takes my mind on what’s bothering me and it somehow provides balance and keeps me from overthinking.
