𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 "𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱" 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱.

People who believe baptism is necessary like to point out that the Apostle Peter told people that they needed to be baptized as part of the process of salvation. Well... salvation isn't a process -- it's a gift given by the grace of God through our faith in Jesus as our only source and our only hope of salvation.

Here's the passage of scripture they use.

Acts 2:37-38 NASB

"Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what are we to do?” [38] Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

You say Peter told people to be baptized for salvation? Well, Peter had forgotten what the ascended Christ had told him. Here's what Jesus said.

Acts 1:4-5 NASB

"Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; [5] for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

I'll prove he forgot. Yes, Peter did tell people that, and we see it in Acts 2:38. Acts 2:38 comes after Jesus' instructions recorded in Acts 1:4-5. Read on though. Look at what Peter said in Acts 11:15-16 NASB,

"And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning. [16] 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 the word of the Lord, how He used to say, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’"
