Oh my goodness, you guys! My heart is just bursting with happiness lately. If you've been following my RV life adventures, you know my sweet dachshund, my little 'Weiner dog' as I affectionately call him, has been my constant companion. Well, get ready for a new addition because we just welcomed the most adorable little kitten into our tiny home on wheels! Introducing a new pet, especially a tiny kitten, to an established dog can be a whirlwind, and doing it in an RV adds a whole new layer of 'interesting'! I wasn't sure how my dachshund would react, even though he's usually such a gentle soul. We started with slow introductions, keeping the kitten in a separate cozy space with its own litter box and food for the first few days. I let them sniff each other under the door, gradually increasing their supervised time together. There were a few curious sniffs, a tentative paw swat from the kitten, and a lot of tail wags from my dog. Honestly, seeing them together now, curled up for naps or playing chase through the RV, it's just pure magic. The way my 'Weiner dog' gently nudges the kitten, or how the kitten will playfully pounce on his tail – it melts my heart every single time. One of the biggest questions I get about RV living is how I manage with pets. Now with two, it's definitely a learning curve, but totally worth it. For anyone thinking about adding a pet to their RV life, especially another one, here are a few things I’ve learned. Space is key, even if it's limited. Make sure each pet has their own 'safe zone' – a bed, a crate, a perch. Routine is also super important; we stick to regular feeding times and walks/play sessions. And let's not forget the litter box situation in a small space – that's a whole adventure in itself! I've found a good covered one works wonders for odor control and keeping things tidy. It's also crucial to consider temperature control in the RV; keeping them comfortable in both heat and cold is a priority, and always having fresh water available, especially when on the move. Don't forget vet visits too – finding mobile vets or clinics along your route is essential for their health while living life on the road. The joy they bring, though, is immeasurable. There’s something incredibly heartwarming about watching two different species, especially a 'Weiner dog' and a tiny kitten, bond and become the best of friends. It adds so much life and laughter to our small RV home. My dachshund acts like a proud big brother, and the kitten, well, she just thinks the world is her playground, and my dog is her personal giant toy! It truly feels like heaven on earth in our little rolling home. Every morning, waking up to their purrs and happy wiggles just makes my day.
