Read with me: TSITP
At least 8 months ago(probably like 10) I started the first The Summer I Turned Pretty book after watching the show. I finished it one day ago. With over half the book left on Tuesday, I told myself I would finish it this week and then finished it the next day.
I also decided on this 5.5/6 hour road trip to Michigan I wouldn’t waste my time doom scrolling & I’d read! Sometimes I feel guilty doing things like reading when I have a never ending to do list, but in the car there’s not much else to do!
📕Last summer, I read one book and was determined that was the start of my book girly era. I read not even half of this book and only read 5 or so pages maybe every month since. I think it’s hard to get into reading after years of required books, textbooks, articles, and more. College was constant bleh reading, nothing actually interesting. I think I just need to find the love for reading and I think it’s possible!
I’ve always struggled with reading. I read slowly, have trouble comprehending, and am rarely fully focused on the words in front of me. Because of this, I think TSITP series was PERFECT to start with! It’s easy to read and follow, an engaging, fastish paced story (in my unseasoned reader opinion), and watching the show before reading made it even better!
I thought it would be fun to document me reading, so here it is!!
📗2 hours & 100 pages in:
I started out without headphones, trying to listen to the car convos and be more present w everyone, but I felt too distracted. I was reading slowly (I’m already a slow reader), not fully imagining the story, and not fully enjoying it! So I put my headphones in w instrumental versions of my fave Christian songs and zoned in!
I teared up a little only twice, bc Susannah, honestly thought it would’ve been more!
📘3.5 hours & 200 pages in:
At this point I knew I would finish it before we arrived and couldn’t wait!
Teared up once more, Susannah!!!
📙4.5 hours & 276 pages in:
I’m done!! Definitely feel like a book girly now that I finished a book in just sitting!
Before I left for the trip I went to Target to buy the third book. I knew there was a slim chance I’d get to it, but I had to! And I am so glad I did!!
📕15 minutes & a few pages in:
As a team Conrad girl, my jaw was ON THE FLOOR when I started this. No fricken way!
I feel the car slow down and look up to see us pulling to the side of the road. What?!?! Not gonna lie, my first thought was that someone has to pee. But we actually just got pulled over. Thankfully the State Trooper was very nice and didn’t ticket or give the driver a warning. Apparently in Michigan you can only be in the left lane if you’re passing, this was news to us!
With that being said, we only had about 20 minutes left and decided I was satisfied with how far I got! Now I get to read early in the morning on the porch and hopefully out my our private beach at some point!
