My first go at "pocket art"
I normally create fully original pieces, but I decided to experiment with something different. I used pages from my black coloring book as a base and transformed them into glitter art trading cards.
The dark background makes the colors glow, and the shimmer catches the light in a way photos don’t fully capture. Each one is hand-embellished and sealed, turning a simple page into a one-of-a-kind collectible piece.
Sometimes creativity isn’t about starting from scratch — it’s about elevating what’s already there.
Creating pocket art by transforming black coloring book pages into glitter art trading cards is a fantastic way to reimagine art materials that might otherwise be overlooked. The dark background of the original coloring pages acts as a perfect canvas to make glitter and bright colors pop, adding depth and a glowing effect that really captures the eye. In my experience, the key to making these mini art pieces stand out is hand-embellishing each card with careful attention to detail and sealing them to preserve the shimmer and color vibrancy. When working with glitter art, it's important to use the right adhesives and sealants that won't dull the shine or cause the glitter to flake off. I found that layering the glitter in specific areas enhances the visual impact without overwhelming the original designs beneath. This technique allows you to build upon existing art, which is a creative approach when you want to produce unique works without starting completely from scratch. Another rewarding aspect of making artist trading cards (ATCs) in this style is that each piece becomes a one-of-a-kind collectible. Sharing or trading these cards with other artists or collectors creates a sense of community and inspires new ideas. Plus, pocket art like this fits easily into small collections or portfolios, making it accessible and fun to carry around. For anyone interested in trying this method, I recommend experimenting with different textures and colors of glitter and considering how the light might reflect differently depending on the angle. Taking photos that fully capture the shimmer can be tricky, but with patience and positioning, you can showcase the dynamic shine effectively. Elevating existing black coloring book pages transforms them into vibrant, glowing art that surprises and delights — proof that creativity can flourish in unexpected ways.
