why is everything here so good 😭

my parents brought me to 三人行 (san ren xing) and i finally understood why its one of their favourite restaurants HAHA. the food here just feels sooo hearty and comforting, esp when shared w family and friends 🥹 we visited the thomson plaza outlet as a party of 7 on a monday evening and got seated immediately without reservations!

🥟 𝒙𝒊𝒂𝒐 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒂𝒐 (6pcs) - [$9.90] 9/10

honestly comparable to din tai fung imo, just with a slightly thicker skin. super juicy filling and the soup inside was sooo satisfying 😋

🥟 𝒑𝒂𝒏 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒅 𝒅𝒖𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 (6pcs) - [$9.90] 8/10

not as juicy as the xlb but still rly solid. loved the crispy bottom layer hehe

🍆 𝒆𝒈𝒈𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒘 𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝒇𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒔 - [$13.90] 9/10

this was the dish i was most excited for and it defo didnt disappoint 😭 fried sooo nicely and the coated pieces were literally chef’s kiss. just wished there was abit more pork floss!

🐟 𝒔𝒂𝒖𝒆𝒓𝒌𝒓𝒂𝒖𝒕 𝒇𝒊𝒔𝒉 - [$36.90] 7.5/10

we skipped the extra dried chilli because they warned us it was super spicy HAHA. ended up being more sour and salty than spicy, but the fish itself was sooo soft and tender

🌶️ 𝒔𝒛𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒖𝒂𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒏 - [$26.90] 8/10

looks terrifyingly spicy but i actually enjoyed this alot even though i cant take spice well 😆 mala flavour wasnt too overpowering, but we were digging through more chillis than chicken LOL

🦐 𝒑𝒖𝒎𝒑𝒌𝒊𝒏 𝒃𝒖𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒘𝒏 (l) - [$36.90] 10/10

DANGEROUSLY GOOD. every prawn was drenchedddd in the pumpkin butter sauce and the prawns were super fresh too 🥹

overall, my whole family rly enjoyed this meal and i’ll definitely be back to try more dishes w my friends and fam!!

𝑶𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈: 8/10 ⭐️

𝑻𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏: $134.40 (before gst & sc)

... Read moreVisiting SAN REN XING at Thomson Plaza with a group of seven on a Monday evening, I was pleasantly surprised by the immediate seating without reservation, which is quite rare for popular eateries in Singapore. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfectly suited for a family meal. The Xiao Long Bao stood out with its thicker skin compared to more famous chains, providing a different texture that held the juicy filling and savory soup beautifully. This made me appreciate the craftsmanship behind these dumplings even more. The pan-fried dumplings had a delightfully crispy bottom layer that added a satisfying crunch to each bite, demonstrating the variety of textures the kitchen brings out. I found the eggplant with pork floss especially memorable. It was fried to perfection with a crispy coating that popped with flavor, though I also wished for a bit more pork floss to enhance the savory dimension. The sauerkraut fish was a unique dish in our meal, balancing sour and salty flavors that complemented the tenderness of the fish nicely without overwhelming spice, especially since we chose to skip the dried chili. Despite my low tolerance for spice, I enjoyed the Szechuan chicken’s mild mala flavor. The fiery appearance of the dish was intimidating, but the taste was manageable and pleasing, showcasing how SAN REN XING caters to varying spice preferences. The star for me was definitely the pumpkin butter prawn. Each prawn was generously coated in a rich, buttery pumpkin sauce that provided a perfect sweet-savory contrast and highlighted the freshness of the seafood. This dish alone made the whole dining experience worthwhile. In addition to the dishes reviewed, exploring some of their other menu items like the Braised Nanping Noodles and French Bean when I return will be exciting. Compared to similar restaurants, SAN REN XING offers authentic flavors and generous portions, making it a great place for sharing meals with family and friends. This visit reinforced why SAN REN XING is a hidden gem in Singapore’s vibrant food scene, combining affordability, quality, and a comforting dining environment that brings people together without the hassle of long waits.
