I hate scammers!

This was sooooo disheartening! To think that someone would go to such lengths just to try to scam someone and a verified charity at that! I’m so glad that I called the bank on the check to verify if it was real or not.

1st red flag: Addresses did not match

2nd red flag: the amount was larger than what was stated in the email

3rd red flag: Bank was in another state

4th red flag: no letter with check

5th red flag: address on check as not in the right spot.

There are some wicked people in this world!

2025/5/30 Edited to

... Read moreWow, that story about the charity check scam really hit home! It's so disheartening to see how far scammers will go just to take advantage of people. After reading about those specific red flags for check fraud, I wanted to share some broader tips on spotting scammers, because sadly, they come in so many forms these days. It’s not just about checks anymore; it’s online, over the phone, and even through text messages. Beyond fake checks, I've noticed a few universal warning signs that scream 'SCAM!' no matter the method. The biggest one for me is always an unreasonable sense of urgency. Scammers push you to act fast, often saying there’s a limited time offer, a dire consequence if you don't respond immediately, or that you'll miss out on a 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity. This pressure is designed to stop you from thinking clearly, doing your research, or verifying facts. Always take a step back and question why someone needs you to act so quickly. Another huge red flag is when someone asks for unusual payment methods. Think gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency. Legitimate organizations rarely demand these. If a 'company' or 'government agency' insists on payment this way, it's almost certainly a scam. They want money that's untraceable and irreversible. My rule of thumb: if they're asking for Amazon gift cards to pay your 'taxes,' it's a huge NO. Also, be highly suspicious of unsolicited contact, especially if it's about something important like your bank account, taxes, a package delivery, or a prize you supposedly won. Scammers love to pretend to be official entities. Always verify the source independently; don't just click links or call numbers provided in the suspicious message. Go to the official website or call the number listed on their verified contact page or on the back of your bank card. And let's not forget the classic: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. That dream job with incredible pay and no experience? That huge inheritance from a long-lost relative? That incredibly cheap item advertised online from a seller with no reviews? Tread very carefully. Scammers love to play on our hopes and dreams, luring us in with promises that are simply unrealistic. I've also learned to look out for poor grammar and spelling in emails or messages. While not always a definitive sign (we all make typos!), many phishing attempts are riddled with errors that a professional organization wouldn't make. It’s a small detail, but it can often be a giveaway. Finally, watch out for impersonation. Scammers often pretend to be banks, government officials, tech support, or even friends/family members in distress. They might create fake profiles or spoof phone numbers. Always verify identities through official channels before sharing any personal information or sending money. If a friend texts you asking for money, call them to confirm it’s actually them. So, how can we protect ourselves? My golden rule is: always verify. If you get a suspicious call or email, look up the official contact number for that organization and call them directly. Never use the contact info provided by the potential scammer. Also, never, ever share sensitive personal or financial information unless you are absolutely sure of who you are dealing with and you initiated the contact. Being vigilant is key in this digital age. We all need to share our experiences and learn from each other to stay safe. If you've been wondering how to really protect yourself, I hope these extra tips give you a fuller picture. Let me know if you want the full story on any specific type of scam – I'm always happy to share what I've learned!

Spiritual Frauds ( Scammers and Fakes)
Spirituality and occulitism has become more popular than ever before because of how social media has exposed hidden information to the public. Now that more people are practicing more than ever a lot of scammers has infatuated and have been capitalizing off of peoples emotions/lack of knowledge.
