Cardboard + Fabric = 🛋

We got a 4' tall preloved (used) dollhouse for my 5-year-old daughter for christmas, and it is in desperate need of some furniture (and a few repairs I'll share soon).

Instead of going out and buying plastic barbie furniture, I figured I could do the crazy thing instead and make a barbie-sized couch out of cardboard and fabric.

The cost of this project was $2 for the dowels. I already had scrap fabric and cardboard (obvs). I just hope the half bottle I used for this project gives the couch a long long life.

In this project, you will learn how to use basic materials such as cardboard and fabric to design a Barbie doll couch, fostering creativity and resourcefulness in children. Start by measuring the dimensions of the couch to fit the dollhouse, and use leftover cardboard pieces to build a sturdy base. Using fabric scraps adds a stylish touch while keeping costs low. Additionally, consider incorporating soft sponge for added comfort on the couch, covered with fabric to make it more appealing. As you craft, explain the process to your child, encouraging them to participate in choosing colors and patterns for the fabric. This not only makes the project more engaging but also enhances their decision-making skills. To provide support, dowels can be used as legs, creating a stable structure that resembles real furniture. This unique touch not only improves aesthetics but also offers a practical lesson in basic engineering concepts. Completing this DIY project not only results in a beautiful addition to the dollhouse, but it also promotes quality bonding time between you and your child, enriching their imaginative play in the dollhouse environment.
