Our First Married Valentine's Day!

... and we're 6 hours apart! Alas.

As an actor, working almost always equals travel. I'm currently on a contract in Kentucky, and my husband (who works a more normal job) is back at home in NC with our cat (who's my real Valentine, let's be honest).

It's tough to be apart for weeks at a time, but we both agree that I should take as many of these opportunities as I can now. Someday, we'll have kids and more responsibilities to tie us down, so for now I'm performing as much as I can and working on building a career that's more locally sustainable.

We've also never made a big deal out of Valentine's Day - our dating anniversary is February 1st, and we quickly found that it was much easier to do a fancy date night for our anniversary and then just stay in on V-Day! I'll miss our traditional Chinese takeout and pajamas, but we made sure to do that before I left town!

Couples often seek creative ways to connect and maintain intimacy, despite the distance. From virtual dinners to thoughtful surprise gifts, there are numerous ways to express love. Consider setting a time to video call and share your favorite memories or plan a surprise delivery of a special gift to your partner. Many couples find that exchanging love letters or handwritten notes can add a personal touch that feels warm and heartfelt. Additionally, utilizing social media to share moments from your day can help bridge the gap and keep the connection alive. For those newlyweds experiencing their first Valentine's Day apart, it's important to recognize the circumstances are temporary. Focus on making the most of your time together when you can, and cherish the small moments like sharing favorite snacks over a video call. Remember, communication is key in any relationship, but especially in long-distance ones. Discuss your feelings and make plans for future visits to nourish the bonds that distance can stretch but never break. Embrace the uniqueness of your situation and use it as an opportunity to grow stronger together.
