... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to share a bit more about my current digital art project. If you're a fan of Squid Game, you know how incredibly compelling the characters are, and I just couldn't resist putting my own spin on them. This particular piece focuses on two of the most unforgettable figures from the series: 001 (Oh Il-nam) and 456 (Seong Gi-hun).
Their complex relationship and the emotional depth they brought to the series really resonated with me. I wanted to capture a moment that speaks to their unique bond, something beyond just the games. That's why I chose to depict them with Gi-hun's arm around Il-nam, suggesting comfort or perhaps a shared moment of reflection, even amidst the chaos. It’s a subtle nod to their unexpected friendship that I found so touching.
As you can see, it's a digital line art drawing in progress. I usually start by sketching out the basic forms and then refine the lines in my drawing application. Getting those expressive, open-mouthed faces just right has been a fun challenge – conveying emotion purely through line work is something I always strive for. The interface of a drawing application is visible as part of my process, showing the layers and tools I'm working with to bring these characters to life. There’s something incredibly satisfying about watching the lines come together to form recognizable expressions.
For anyone else out there looking to create their own Squid Game artwork, my biggest tip is to really study the characters' expressions and body language. What makes them unique? What emotions do they convey? Don't be afraid to experiment with different styles, whether it's digital like mine, or traditional media. There are so many fan art communities online where you can find inspiration and share your work. Using good references, like screenshots from the show, can also be super helpful in getting the details right, from their clothing to their facial features.
Working digitally offers so much flexibility. I love being able to undo mistakes, experiment with different brushes, and easily create clean line art. It allows me to focus on the nuances of the characters, like how to shade their clothing or add subtle textures that make the drawing pop. Every stroke feels like I'm adding another layer to their story, trying to do justice to the brilliant acting and character development we saw in Squid Game.
I’m really enjoying the journey of bringing this piece to completion. It’s more than just drawing; it’s about paying homage to a show that left such a big impact on me and so many others. What are your favorite Squid Game moments or characters you'd love to see drawn? Let me know in the comments below! I'll keep you updated on the finished artwork, hopefully soon.
