I missed out.. But not really

I was extremely antisocial and had horrible social anxiety, which ofc played a big role at school. I went to high school for only my freshman year, I absolutely hated school, and that year was hell in itself. I had friends but there was nobody I truly wanted to talk to other than 2 close friends I had at the time, I disliked talking to people & preferred being alone. I begged my parents to let me do online my whole life, & they finally agreed. So I finished my education online & graduated 1-2 years earlier then I would have in public school. I didn't plan on going to prom, graduation, etc regardless of being there. So I missed out on every type school event other then a military ball for jrotc but tbh that doesn't count since its not something culturally “special” like homecoming or prom. I wanted to go to prom just to take pics, but I didn't actually want to go to prom itself 😂 never thought prom or graduation was a big deal, when I graduated online I said “finally” and just continued life 😭 I don’t regret anything tbh, I would have 100% been miserable at prom and homecoming, and they have no real meaning anyways, maybe graduation- but it’s not that deep just let me leave alr like 😂 but that’s my take on school 🤷🏼‍♀️

Many students feel immense pressure to conform to social norms like attending prom and graduation, which can lead to increased stress and anxiety. Choosing online education offers a solution for those who find traditional classroom settings overwhelming. It provides flexibility and allows students to learn at their own pace, which can be particularly beneficial for mental well-being. The decision to forego events like prom doesn't mean missing out on important milestones; it can be about crafting a personalized educational experience. Some students opt for alternative celebrations that align more closely with their interests. It’s essential to recognize that every student’s journey is unique. While school events like prom hold cultural significance for some, for others, they may feel like unnecessary pressure. Embracing one's path, whether through online learning or minimal participation in traditional events, can lead to a fulfilling and balanced life. Understanding and prioritizing personal preferences over societal expectations is crucial in today’s educational landscape.

I can kind of relate. I was in public school in HS but I was super introverted, shy and kind of anti social due to previous bullying in middle school so I really didn’t want to go to any of the events. I wanted to go to prom with my girl friends but my mom forced me to go with a guy saying I would regret not having pictures later. I regret listening to my mom and not going with my friends. I hated prom night. I wanted to do graduation differently too but of course my mom ruined that for me too and refused to help me prepare for graduation so my best friends at the time had to step in and be there for me.
