Bacon Wrapped Drumsticks
Oooo it’s been awhile! 👋
Is this healthy in any way? Probably not. Did it taste good? Absolutely— and everyone at the dinner table was happy! The taste was almost like a smoky barbecue.
Some notes before I get into the recipe:
🍁To de-glove chicken, just pull the skin down and give it a firm yank. I recommend using a towel because it gives you more grip
🍁this was served with green beans (I’ll put in how to prepare those at the end for those interested but it’s sooooo simple— you can probably substitute the green beans for mostly any other veggie)
🍁when I was making the honey glaze I did NOT measure the amount of honey I was using, I just used as much as I needed to cover the chicken evenly
🍁the chicken does not need to be wrapped in bacon for the honey to taste good on it, it’s yummy either way! However, I do recommend putting some salt on the chicken or in the honey, as the bacon gave that salty taste to the sweet chicken. Also, leave the skin on!
🍁If you’re using raw honey— please melt it! Your honey needs to be a liquid! I know that sounds obvious, but confusion is a real thing.
Now; the recipe!
Tools 🎛️
🍂A large cast iron skillet (a baking sheet could work fine too. But, if you are planning on roasting your vegetables in the juices left behind like I did, then I recommend a skillet)(I ended up actually using a small one too, mostly because they didn’t have bacon wrapped around it because my brother hates bacon but I was also running out of room)
🍂Bowl
🍂 Silicon pastry brush (basically one of those silicon brush thingys) (you can probably use smth else too)
Ingredients 🍗🍯🥓
🍂12 skinless chicken legs (refer to the first 🍁 for a quick description on how to remove the skin from a leg)
🍂12 pieces of bacon
🍂Honey (as much as needed to evenly cover chicken)
🍂 1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
🍂 1 1/2 tsp chili powder (or however you like your spice level)
Directions 🥘
🍂Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (or 204 degrees Celsius)
🍂Wrap a slice of bacon around each skinless drumstick
🍂In a small bowl, mix together your chili powder, nutmeg, and honey (if your honey is raw, please make sure it’s melted! I recommend heating it up regardless because it’s easier to spread)
🍂Place the chicken in your skillet(s)
🍂Take your pastry brush and begin ti brush the honey mixture over your chicken, ensuring that it is evenly coated on both front and back
🍂Allow the chicken to cook for 50 minutes to an hour
OPTIONAL BONUS RECIPE!!!! 🥰
❣️Once your chicken is cooked, remove the sticks from your pan and move onto whatever you’re going to serve it on
❣️Take the pan and all of its wonderful, cooked juices and place it on your stovetop, turning it up to a medium
❣️allow a tablespoon of butter to melt into your “mixture” (just for some extra flavor)
❣️Take whatever vegetable you plan on serving (I used green beans) and throw it into the pan to roast it
❣️if you’re using green beans like me (super good with this btw), allow them to cook until tender and slightly floppy. When you are not moving them around on the pan, PUT A LID ON IT. The steam from it will also help to cook your green beans (this took me about 10 minutes)

Hey everyone! 👋 You know how some dishes just become instant family favorites? Well, these honey-glazed bacon-wrapped chicken drumsticks are definitely one of them for me. I wanted to share a few extra tips and tricks I've learned along the way to make this recipe even more phenomenal, especially for those looking to master that perfect honey glazed bacon and ensure every drumstick is a winner. First off, let's talk about that honey glaze. The original recipe uses honey, chili powder, and nutmeg. While that's fantastic, don't be afraid to experiment! For a little extra warmth and depth, I sometimes add a tiny pinch of smoked paprika or even a dash of garlic powder to my honey mixture. If you like a bit of a kick, increasing the chili powder or adding a tiny bit of cayenne pepper can really elevate it. Remember, the key is to get that beautiful, even coating for those perfectly golden-brown drumsticks. Make sure your honey is truly liquid for easy brushing – a quick warm-up in the microwave or a small saucepan does wonders. And if you're using raw honey, definitely melt it down properly; it'll spread so much better and absorb into the bacon and chicken beautifully. Next, the star of the show: the bacon wrap. Getting that bacon crispy and ensuring it stays put is crucial for amazing honey glazed bacon results. I've found that using thinner-cut bacon works best, as it crisps up more evenly. When wrapping, make sure the bacon is taut around the drumstick, slightly overlapping as you go. For extra security, some folks use toothpicks, but I usually find that if it's wrapped tightly, it stays. The secret to extra crispy bacon? Don't overcrowd your pan! Give each drumstick a little space so the air can circulate, allowing the bacon to render its fat and crisp up instead of steam. If your bacon isn't as crispy as you'd like towards the end, a quick blast under the broiler for a minute or two (watch it like a hawk!) can give it that perfect finish, just be careful not to burn the delicious honey glaze. And for those wondering about serving, while green beans are a fantastic choice, these honey glazed bacon-wrapped chicken drumsticks are incredibly versatile! They pair wonderfully with roasted root vegetables like carrots and potatoes, a simple side salad for freshness, or even a creamy mashed potato or sweet potato mash. The rich, smoky, sweet flavor profile means they can stand up to heartier sides. I often make a double batch because they're great for meal prep too. They reheat well and are perfect for a quick lunch the next day. Just ensure they are stored properly in an airtight container. Ultimately, this dish is all about delicious comfort food that brings smiles to the dinner table. Don't stress too much about perfection; the main goal is to enjoy the cooking process and the incredible flavors. Happy cooking!

Looks amazing 🤤
