I’m rough around the edges 🤣
Having been out of the formal interview scene for some time, I can definitely relate to feeling a bit 'rough around the edges.' It’s that awkward mix of excitement and nervousness when the polished self you once presented feels a little rusty. Interview skills, much like any others, require practice and regular engagement to stay sharp—and when that breaks, you can feel a bit off balance. Personally, I found that acknowledging this roughness is the first step to overcoming it. Instead of trying to mask the nervous energy, embracing it as a part of personal growth helped me relax. Preparing in advance by practicing responses aloud, researching the company culture deeply, and even simulating the interview environment with friends or mentors can make a massive difference. Moreover, being authentic and showing your unique personality, even if it's 'rough around the edges,' can resonate more profoundly with interviewers than a perfectly scripted persona. Everyone has quirks or imperfections, and these can be assets if presented with confidence and honesty. In sum, stepping back into interviews after a break might feel daunting, but it’s also an opportunity to renew confidence and showcase how your experiences, imperfections and all, have shaped who you are today. So if you’re feeling a bit out of practice or unpolished, remember—rough edges can be what make you memorable and real.
