Ingredients:

* 1 cup warm milk

* 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

* 1/2 cup granulated sugar

* 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter

* 2 large eggs, room temperature

* 4 cups all-purpose flour

* 1 teaspoon salt

* 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

* 2 teaspoons red food coloring (or enough to achieve desired color)

For the Filling

* 1 cup brown sugar, packed

* 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon

* 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the Cream Cheese Glaze

* 4 ounces cream cheese, softened

* 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

* 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

* 2-3 tablespoons milk (adjust for desired consistency)

* Heart sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. In another bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Add melted butter, eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

2. Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.

3. Assemble the Rolls: Punch down the dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a 15×9 inch rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the dough. Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces and place in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until doubled.

4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Let cool slightly.

5. Make the Glaze: In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until creamy. Add milk one tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.

6. Glaze and Decorate: Spread the cream cheese glaze over the warm rolls. Sprinkle with heart sprinkles for a festive touch. Serve immediately and enjoy!

(I added tangzhong to the dough and personally I’d add more cocoa for more of a red velvet taste!! Enjoy!)

... Read moreRed Velvet Cinnamon Rolls are more than just a treat; they are a statement of love, especially around Valentine's Day. These festive rolls not only deliver a visually striking red hue but also tantalizing flavors that combine the warmth of cinnamon with the rich taste of cocoa. To make your baking even more memorable, consider adding a touch of vanilla extract alongside your cream cheese glaze for an enhanced flavor profile. Experimenting with the texture of your dough can also elevate the rolls; incorporating tangzhong can give a softer and fluffier result. Additionally, you can adjust the cream cheese glaze consistency based on your preference for a thicker or drizzle-like finish. When serving these cinnamon rolls, let your creative juices flow! Garnish them with heart-shaped sprinkles or edible glitter—perfect for romantic occasions. You can also customize them by mixing in chocolate chips or nuts into the filling for added texture. With these twists, every bite invites a burst of flavor and festivity. Storage is essential for keeping your rolls fresh. Allow them to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Reheat them in the oven for a few minutes to regain that soft and warm quality before serving. Whether you're treating yourself or sharing with friends, these red velvet cinnamon rolls are a heartwarming indulgence that brings joy to any gathering.
