‼️ My epidural failed ‼️

When I was pregnant with my son I knew I was going to have that epidural. Fast forward to me being induced (preeclampsia). I got my epidural and I clearly couldn’t feel the lower half of my body…. Until I started feeling a little itchy. It was weird but i thought nothing of it but it only got worse. It got so bad to the point I was scratching my legs up on accident because I couldn’t feel them. They tried giving me Benadryl to try and stop it. Which it didn’t.

They ended up having to make a special concoction of meds (I forgot what it was lol) to replace my other one. Which is all cool and fine except when it takes at least a half hour if not longer to make.

So.. I started feeling the labor pains again and you wouldn’t believe what happened while they were mixing it up. I started to deliver!!!!

No I didn’t want a natural birth (it chose me 😂)! I wanted all the meds I could!! And to top it off while they’re checking the baby out and fixing me up guess what they trot in with… my damn med cocktail. Totally sucked but I couldn’t love my son more. We know for next time too. One of my nurses said in all her 30 years at the hospital she’d never seen that reaction before. Go me!

Being a redhead doesn’t help. They mentioned I need more anesthetics then most... Not sure if that may have played a part but they said it was most likely the fentanyl in the epidural.

... Read moreExperiences with epidurals can vary widely among expectant mothers. Some women may find that they have unexpected reactions, such as itching, which can occur due to the medications used, including fentanyl. Such reactions may necessitate adjustments in medication during labor. Additionally, redheads and individuals with certain genetic backgrounds may require different dosages of anesthetics due to differences in body metabolism. These variations highlight the importance of personalized care in maternity settings. If you're pregnant and planning for labor, it's essential to have open discussions with your healthcare provider regarding pain management options, potential allergies, and individual medical histories to ensure the safest and most effective approach. Many women share their labor stories online, offering a wealth of personal insights and support for those facing similar experiences.
