As a content creator passionate about board games, walking through endless aisles filled with booths showcasing everything from classic board games to the latest tabletop RPGs was a dream come true. What surprised me most was the incredible variety and quality of stalls — from beautifully crafted card games to rare Dungeons & Dragons artwork that truly captured the spirit of fantasy gaming. One thing I quickly learned is that Gen Con isn't just about the games; it's about the community. Everywhere I turned, I met fellow gamers who were eager to share their experiences, offer recommendations, and even invite me to join games right on the spot. The camaraderie added a layer of warmth to the convention that I didn't expect but deeply appreciated. If you’re considering a first trip to Gen Con, here are a few tips based on my experience: pack light but be ready with an extra suitcase (or space) because you’ll want to bring home unique finds; plan your days but allow for spontaneous stops at unexpected booths; and don’t hesitate to talk to vendors and attendees — they’re some of the most passionate people you’ll meet. Also, the local scene around the convention center is vibrant. I made sure to explore nearby bars and eateries, which offered the perfect respite after long days of gaming and browsing. All in all, Gen Con was more than just a convention; it was a full sensory feast and an opportunity to dive deep into the world of board games and tabletop RPGs. I can’t wait to go back and see what new surprises the next year holds!
