Ken Kaneki
Who next?
Wow, thanks everyone for checking out my latest Ken Kaneki fan art! It's always such a joy to bring a character like him to life on paper. When I started this piece, I really wanted to capture that raw, intense emotion that Ken Kaneki is so famous for in the Tokyo Ghoul manga. His journey is incredibly complex, and I find his expressions, especially his sad or contemplative ones, are just so compelling to draw. For this particular piece, I chose a classic black and white approach, which I think really suits the gritty atmosphere of Tokyo Ghoul. There's something about shading with just pencils that brings out the dramatic contrasts and depths in a character's features. I focused on his signature messy hair and the subtle facial marks that show his transformation. It was a challenge to get that dark turtleneck just right, making sure it blended seamlessly with the overall mood. I spent a lot of time on his eyes, trying to convey that sense of internal struggle that defines him. Drawing characters from manga panels is a fantastic way to practice art. You get to study how the original artists convey emotion and dynamic poses. I often find myself looking through different Tokyo Ghoul manga panels for inspiration, especially for his more iconic looks. This drawing, done on my trusty spiral-bound sketchbook, was an attempt to replicate that powerful, silent storytelling you find in the manga. One of the things I love most about Ken Kaneki is how relatable his struggles are, despite the fantastical setting. His fight for identity and humanity resonates deeply, and I think that's why so many artists, including myself, are drawn to him. Capturing his 'sad' moments, as some of you have pointed out in your searches, is particularly rewarding because it allows for so much emotional depth in the artwork. Now, that leads me to my initial question: 'Who next?' I'm always looking for new characters to challenge myself with. Should I stick with Tokyo Ghoul and perhaps try Touka or Juuzou? Or maybe venture into another anime or manga series that has equally complex characters and stunning art? Let me know your suggestions in the comments! Your ideas really help me decide on my next art project. Keep an eye out for more manga art to come!
