Studying on a Plane ✈️ | Unexpected Journey
Study with me on a plane
This study vlog was recorded during a flight from Jeju to Seoul. It was totally unexpected 🥲 — I forgot I had a short test to complete on time. That’s why I had to study on the airplane.
But in the end, I completed the test and had an unforgettable experience. I have to admit, studying on a plane is actually really cool and not as difficult as I thought!
Also, shoutout to my iPad and the Kilonotes app (a free note-taking app) — they were a huge help with my studies.

It’s easy to dismiss a flight as just travel time, but my recent experience proved that an airplane can actually be a fantastic, distraction-free bubble for studying! After my unexpected study session on a flight from Jeju to Seoul, I realized that with a little preparation, you can turn any journey into a productive learning environment. Here’s how I’ve learned to make the most of studying on a plane, inspired by that memorable "study vlog" moment. Pre-Flight Preparation: Your Study Success Starts on the Ground Before you even step on the plane, thoughtful preparation is key. First, ensure all your devices – especially your iPad or laptop – are fully charged. Power outlets on planes can be unreliable or nonexistent, so a full battery is your best friend. Download all necessary study materials, textbooks, articles, and notes offline. This is where apps like Kilonotes shine; having all my digital notebooks accessible without Wi-Fi was a lifesaver. I even made sure to download any relevant video lectures or podcasts I wanted to review. Don't forget noise-canceling headphones – they are essential for blocking out engine hum and cabin chatter, creating your personal quiet zone. Pack a small, comfortable neck pillow and a light blanket if allowed, as comfort greatly contributes to focus. And yes, just like my "Starbucks Latte from GS25" moment, grab some non-messy snacks and a water bottle to stay fueled and hydrated. Creating Your Personal "Study Cabin" Once on board, try to optimize your immediate environment. If possible, choose a window seat; it generally offers fewer disturbances from aisle traffic and gives you a wall to lean against. Maximize your tray table space by only bringing out what you absolutely need. Keep your main device (iPad, laptop) central and use your phone only for emergencies or as a quick reference tool, not for social media scrolling. Good lighting is also crucial. Utilize the overhead reading light to prevent eye strain, especially if you’re flying at night or in dim cabin conditions. The goal is to minimize physical distractions and create a dedicated workspace, however small. Effective Study Strategies at 30,000 Feet Not all study tasks are created equal when you’re mid-air. I found that flights are perfect for tasks that require focused reading, reviewing notes, organizing thoughts, or light writing. This is where Kilonotes was invaluable for me – I could open my digital notebooks and refine my existing notes, create flashcards, or even outline essays. Avoid tasks that demand heavy internet research, collaborative work, or activities that might disturb fellow passengers (like loud typing). Breaking your study into manageable chunks, similar to the Pomodoro technique, can be very effective. Work intensely for 25-30 minutes, then take a short break to stretch, look out the window, or listen to a song. This helps maintain concentration despite the confined space. Overcoming the Challenges of "Airplane Mode" Study The biggest hurdles are often noise and limited connectivity. Noise-canceling headphones address the former. For the latter, proactive offline preparation is your only solution. Turbulence can also be a challenge; during bumpy patches, switch to reviewing mental notes or listening to audio materials rather than trying to write or read small text. Lastly, remember to be mindful of your energy levels. It’s a long journey, and it’s okay to take breaks if you're not feeling productive. Hydrate frequently, and stand up to stretch when safe. Ultimately, studying on a plane can transform otherwise unproductive travel time into valuable learning hours. My "unexpected journey" taught me that with the right tools and mindset, you really can "study anywhere, anytime" with Kilonotes. It's an empowering feeling to land knowing you’ve not only traveled but also made significant progress on your academic goals!
