Brain-dump everything onto a to-do list 📝

Here are some tips:

🧠 Clear your brain: Write down every single task, no matter how simple or complicated. Create a list with all those tasks that are overwhelming you.

🙂‍↔️ Prioritize: Once you have your list, you can see what's urgent and what can wait. Start with the most important and simple ones. Build momentum to help you get in the zone.

🎧 Stay Focused: Put your phone away! Or record a time-lapse while you tackle your to-do list. Try to avoid distractions!

👩🏻‍💻 Self assessment: Check your list, how well you did, what needs to improve. Focus on improving one day at a time. Give yourself some grace and be proud of yourself for those tasks that you worked on!

One step at a time besties 🫶🏻 You are doing amazing!

💭 What’s the first thing on your list today? Let me know in the comments!

... Read moreAs someone who used to drown in sticky notes and scattered thoughts, discovering the power of a digital to-do list, especially on my iPad with Notability, was a game-changer. My old paper lists would get lost, torn, or simply overwhelm me. But since adopting a structured Notability to-do list system, I've not only cleared my mental clutter but also found a satisfying way to ensure every single task gets checked off. One of the biggest breakthroughs for me was realizing that brain-dumping isn't just about writing things down; it's about organizing them effectively so they don't feel like a mountain. In Notability, I've created separate notebooks for different areas of my life—work, personal projects, studies, and even a 'someday/maybe' list. This helps keep my main weekly or daily layouts focused. When I do my brain dump, everything goes into a general inbox note first. Then, during my planning session, I distribute tasks to their respective notebooks or use one of the many fantastic notability free templates for weekly or daily layouts to slot them in. These templates, often overlooked, provide a ready-made structure that saves so much time. The real magic, for me, happens when I start checking things off. Notability's simple checkbox feature (or even just drawing a bold line through a completed task with my Apple Pencil) provides an incredible sense of accomplishment. It's not just about the task being done; it's the visual confirmation that I'm making progress. I often use different colors – maybe green for completed, or even move tasks to a 'Done This Week' section to see my achievements pile up. For urgent tasks, I might use a bright red highlighter, while smaller, quick-win tasks get a different shade, helping me build momentum throughout the day. For those 'low click' queries like "how to get a to-do list checked off," I've found a few personal hacks. Firstly, break down large tasks into smaller, actionable steps. Instead of "Write Essay," I'll list "Outline Essay," "Research Section 1," "Write Intro Paragraph." Each small checkmark fuels the next. Secondly, I schedule my tasks. Looking at my iPad's calendar integration with Notability, I assign specific time slots to tasks, making them feel less daunting. And finally, I celebrate the little wins! That satisfying feeling of seeing my digital planner fill up with checked-off items, especially with the 'to do list checked off' query in mind, is incredibly motivating. It transforms my to-do list from a source of stress into a powerful tool for productivity and personal growth. Give it a try; you might just find your new favorite way to conquer your daily tasks!

A title slide for an article on "the psychology behind BRAINDUMPING" and "how to create mental space when you're overwhelmed." It features a pink daily planner and a sticky note with a to-do list, including items like 'collect data' and 'check website'.
This image explains "The Zeigarnik Effect," stating that the brain remembers unfinished tasks almost twice as well as finished ones. It clarifies that unfinished tasks include chores, worries, ideas, conversations, or anything 'open' in your mind.
This slide defines the "Brain Dump" technique as getting everything out of your head and onto paper or a digital document. It explains that writing things down offloads them from working memory, freeing up mental energy and quieting the brain.
How Brain Dumping Can Help You Manage Stress
Somewhat of a common technique that has some interesting psychology behind it! I included a few more specific prompts and category ideas, but let me know if you guys want more!! Hope this helps 🩵 #BrainDump #ZeigarnikEffect #MentalClarity #AnxietyRelief #FreeSelfCare
