First photo shoot in 2015 with Leo Bracy Jr
Hi! so imma just start sharing instead of waiting for a future time to do so that is actually happening right now. The aesthetics and growth will come gradually. Anyways, this was the first shoot I ever did in 2015 with @leo.rocket I wore this Nasty Gal co-ord set to style this shoot. I really was unconsciously only buying hella pieces from white owned establishments and not supporting Black and POC folks at this time, whew! I also cut all my hair off in 2015.
What was the last Black or POC fashion and/or beauty business that you bought from? Comment Below!

Looking back at that 2015 photoshoot with Leo Bracy Jr. truly brings a mix of emotions and valuable lessons. It wasn't just about getting some cool shots; it was a pivotal moment that kicked off a whole journey of self-discovery and understanding my personal style – and even my consumer habits! I remember feeling a bundle of nerves and excitement leading up to that day. It was my very first time being professionally photographed, and honestly, I had no idea what to expect. Leo, even then, had this amazing ability to make you feel comfortable, which is so crucial for anyone stepping in front of a camera for the first time. We chatted about the vision, and I brought along that Nasty Gal co-ord, thinking it was the epitome of chic at the time. What strikes me now is how much my perspective has changed. Back then, I was solely focused on the aesthetic, not really thinking about where my clothes came from or the broader impact of my purchases. That shoot, in some ways, was the quiet beginning of a shift in my awareness. For anyone out there dreaming of their own first photoshoot, here are a few things I wish I knew back in 2015. First, communication is key! Don't be afraid to talk to your photographer about your vision, your insecurities, and what you hope to achieve. Leo was great at guiding me, but being clear upfront makes a huge difference. Second, plan your outfits, but be flexible. I had my Nasty Gal set, but having a few options allows for different looks and moods. Think about comfort too; you want to feel good in what you're wearing. Third, and perhaps most importantly, embrace the experience! It's okay to feel awkward at first. Everyone does. The best shots often come when you let go and just enjoy the process. Leo really helped me get out of my head and just *be*. The entire experience, from styling to posing, felt like a mini-adventure. I learned so much about how lighting works, how small adjustments in posture can make a huge difference, and the sheer effort that goes into creating those perfect images. It wasn't just about looking good; it was about collaborating and bringing a vision to life. After seeing the final edits from Leo, I felt this incredible sense of accomplishment. It boosted my confidence not just in front of the camera, but in my ability to pursue creative endeavors. This first photoshoot wasn't just a memory; it was a catalyst. It made me more curious about the fashion industry, more critical of my own consumption, and more determined to use my platform (even then, just a budding one!) to support creators and businesses that align with my evolving values. It's truly amazing how one 'leo photoshoot' moment can spark such significant personal growth and shape future choices. What about you? Has a specific creative project ever fundamentally changed your perspective?
