Found a bunch of of tangled up curls today
Okay, so my post today showed my unique collection of found tangled curls, which is a big part of my personal routine (it's Day 79, after all!). But let's be real, 'tangling hair' is something most of us deal with on our heads too, right? While I'm carefully organizing these collected curls, it always makes me think about how to best care for the hair that's still attached! If you're constantly battling with tangling hair, you're not alone. It can be super frustrating, leading to breakage and general hair woes. Over time, I've picked up a few tips that have really helped me minimize tangles and keep my curls happy and healthy. Maybe some of these will help you have fewer 'tangled curls' to deal with in the first place, whether they're on your head or in your brush! 1. The Nighttime Nurture: This is a game-changer! Before bed, I always do a loose braid or pineapple my hair on top of my head. This simple step prevents a lot of friction as I move in my sleep. And if you don't already have one, investing in a silk or satin pillowcase is a must. Cotton can snag and rough up your hair cuticle, leading to more tangles and frizz. Trust me, waking up with fewer knots is a small victory that makes a huge difference. 2. Condition, Condition, Condition! Dry hair is tangle-prone hair. Always use a good quality conditioner after shampooing, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. What I love to do is apply my conditioner and then, while it's still in, gently detangle with my fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Starting from the ends and working my way up is key. This way, the conditioner provides slip, making it much easier to work through knots without causing damage. Sometimes, I even do a quick co-wash (conditioner-only wash) between shampoo days to keep my curls moisturized and less prone to tangling. 3. The Right Tools Make All the Difference: Just like I use my trusty tweezers and fingers to meticulously organize my collected curls, using the right tools for your hair is crucial. Ditch those fine-tooth combs for detangling wet hair! A wide-tooth comb or a dedicated detangling brush (like a Tangle Teezer or Wet Brush) is your best friend. When brushing dry hair, always use a soft-bristle brush, and again, work from the ends up. Over-brushing or using the wrong brush can actually create more tangles and breakage. 4. Leave-In Love: After washing, a good leave-in conditioner or a curl cream can provide an extra layer of moisture and protection, helping to seal the hair cuticle and prevent tangles throughout the day. I find that this step also helps to define my curls, making them less likely to clump into massive knots. 5. Regular Trims: Split ends are notorious for causing tangles because they create rough spots that latch onto other strands. Regular trims, even just a dusting, can keep your hair healthy and smooth, significantly reducing tangling. Think of it as 'decluttering' your hair, much like I do with my collected curls! Dealing with tangling hair can be a never-ending battle, but with these simple adjustments to your routine, you can definitely see a huge improvement. It's all about being gentle, patient, and giving your hair the love and moisture it needs. Happy detangling, fellow curl enthusiasts!
