Eco-Printed Fabric Dyed Step
(Leaf print in the natural way)
1. Prepare equipment materials
• Natural fabrics (e.g. cotton, silk, linen or loincloth)
• Fresh leaves / flowers with high tannins, such as eucalyptus leaves, guava leaves, yuppang leaves, marigolds
• Stainless steel or aluminum pot (Do not use iron pot because it will rust)
• Mordant color binder such as alum, rusty water (vinegar pickle iron), clear mortar water or other natural extracts
• Rope / Rubber Band for Fabric Bundle
• Plastic film or thin plastic sheet (anti-paint, smudge another layer of fabric)
2. Fabric preparation
1. Washing thoroughly. To wash off flour and dirt.
2.Soak the cloth in water, color-fixing agent (such as 10-20 grams of alum juice per 1 liter of water), leave for 30 minutes - 1 hour.
3. Squeeze the water out damping.
3. Leaf arrangement
1. Place the cloth on a flat floor.
2. Bring prepared leaves or flowers arranged on the cloth in a favorite pattern.
3. Close with thin plastic to smudge.
4. Roll the cloth tightly (may be wrapped around wood or PVC pipe)
5. Tie with rope tightly
4. Steaming / boiling
• Steaming method: Place the cloth roll in crate to steamer for 1-2 hours
• How to boil: Place the cloth roll in the radiator (Flood cloth roll), boil the light for 1-2 hours.
• In the meantime, the color of the leaves and flowers seeps into the fabric fibers.
5. Fabric break
1.Lift the cloth roll out of the pot, leave to cool.
2. Stay for 1 night (even longer, the pattern will be clearer)
6. Stripping and washing cloth
1. Untie the rope and remove the leaves from the cloth.
2. Wash the cloth in clean water several times until the water is clear.
3. Eyes in the shade, wind, not in the sun.
7. Maintenance
• Hand washing in mild soapy water
• No white laundry remover or fabric softener
• Tak in the shade to make the color durable
