In the heart of Masoka, that’s not just a saying—it’s a way of life.
In order to build a 19 room housing project for Masoka’s 16 teachers, the Chief assigned each family in the village a quota of bricks to make. See previous post to see how the bricks are hand made from the mud of termite mounds.
A generous donor supplied the money for other housing supplies …and Safari operators—funded through regulated hunting—will cover the cost of skilled labor to build the structure.
Projects like this…and conservation…work best when it is a team effort. The result is more than a building—it’s empowerment, ownership, and hope for the next generation of students and teachers.

While other family’s mounds of bricks were still in the making, Admire’s quota was done and ready to go. This didn’t surprise us one iota. He is a go-getter …who doesn’t let any grass grow under his feet.
And I feel so incredibly blessed to be here, witnessing village life firsthand—learning from the people, the land, and the true community.
