October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜
This is the first time I’ve really shared this part of my life. I spent a long time feeling like silence was easier, safer, less frightening. Domestic violence doesn’t always look the way people expect it to. For a long time, I didn’t fully understand that either. Abuse can look like constantly walking on eggshells, being made to question your own reality, feeling responsible for someone else’s anger and actions, becoming isolated from the people who love you, or being made to believe you have to protect the image of the person hurting you. It can happen behind closed doors in a home that looks completely normal from the outside.
If even one woman reads this and recognizes herself in this, I want her to know that she deserves safety, she deserves peace, and choosing herself IS possible and not something she ever needs to be ashamed of.
