Being good doesn’t come with a reciept.

I shared something the other day that received a lot of backlash. But for every negative reaction there were so many more people who related to what I was saying. Who felt exactly what I have been feeling.

One of the main arguments I kept seeing was “How is anyone supposed to know you’re a good person or that you believe in the right things if you’re not showing it?”

I think somewhere along the way we started equating goodness with visibility (especially on social media)… like your values only count if other people can see or validate them.

I think that concept is terrifying… the idea that being good or doing the right thing needs to come with some kind of receipt to be real. And I don’t feel the need to prove to anyone where my heart stands in order for it to be true.

So much of what shapes who we are happens in moments no one else sees. It’s in how we treat people when there’s nothing to gain, how we show up when it’s inconvenient, and the choices we make when no one is watching. Some of the most meaningful parts of being a good person aren’t visible because they were never meant to be.

Being good isn’t just about what you say you believe in front of an audience. It’s about whether you’re actually creating a life that puts those beliefs into action and being willing to do the right thing without recognition or praise.

The idea that silence automatically means indifference or complicity is flawed. Not every space is meant to hold every conversation. Having a good heart and doing the right thing isn’t proven by how loudly it’s displayed on social media, but by how consistently it’s practiced in real life. ♥️ #beagoodhuman #leadbyexample

... Read moreI've often reflected on how much pressure social media puts on us to demonstrate our values loudly and publicly. From my experience, the most meaningful acts of kindness and integrity happen quietly and sometimes go unnoticed. For instance, small gestures like listening patiently to a friend in need or helping a stranger without expecting thanks have deeply shaped my sense of self-worth. It's reassuring to realize that being good doesn't require a "receipt" or validation from others. Often, society equates silence or lack of overt activism with indifference, but in reality, some struggles and acts of goodness are deeply personal and can't always be shared openly. Respecting privacy and understanding timing are essential parts of true empathy. This idea resonates strongly with the phrase captured in the images: "Do you know what helps me sleep at night? That I know I'm a good person... NOT that you do." It perfectly encapsulates how internal peace comes from aligning actions with values, not from external recognition. In practice, I've learned to focus on consistency rather than visibility. Whether supporting a cause, being honest in difficult situations, or simply offering kindness without expectation, these moments build character quietly. They prove that true goodness is self-sustaining and doesn't require applause. Ultimately, cultivating a good heart means leading by example in everyday life, even when no one else is watching. That courage and humility are more powerful than any public declaration and form the foundation of authentic leadership and compassion.
