Length Check
#lemon8diarychallenge I haven’t had a re-twist since January. This is my growth in the past 6 months! They look so good🥰 How long have you had your locs and how often do you re-twist/re-tie them? #locs
Hey everyone! Seeing my locs grow makes me so happy, and I know many of you are on a similar journey. That 'length check' feeling is just the best, right? After sharing my 6-month progress, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into how I keep my locs thriving and what I've learned along the way. First, let's talk about those all-important length checks. It's not just about snapping a photo! To accurately track your growth, try to measure a few strands from different areas of your head – front, sides, and back. Use a soft measuring tape and make sure your locs are fully dry and not shrunken from washing. Consistency is key, so try to do it at the same interval, like every 3 or 6 months. It's super motivating to see those numbers change! Beyond just time, several things can influence how quickly your locs grow. Hydration is a big one – both drinking enough water and keeping your locs moisturized with lightweight oils or rosewater spray. Diet plays a role too; think biotin-rich foods, vitamins, and a balanced intake. And of course, minimizing tension and breakage from styles that are too tight is crucial. I've personally noticed a huge difference when I focus on internal and external nourishment. My original post mentioned my re-twist schedule, and it sparked some great questions. How often is 'right'? It really varies for everyone! Factors include your hair type, how fast your hair grows, and your desired look. Some people go 4-6 weeks, others 2-3 months, and some even longer like me. The key is to find a schedule that prevents excessive unraveling at the roots without causing too much tension. Too frequent re-twisting can lead to thinning, while waiting too long can make it harder to maintain neatness. Listen to your hair! Beyond re-twists, daily upkeep is vital. I always sleep with a silk or satin bonnet to protect my locs from frizz and breakage. Washing is important, but make sure to use a residue-free shampoo and dilute it to avoid buildup. And don't forget to dry your locs thoroughly to prevent mildew – a common locs owner concern! Sometimes I use a hooded dryer or just let them air dry completely. What are your go-to locs care hacks? I'd love to hear them! Maintaining locs is definitely a journey of learning and patience, but the results are so rewarding. Every 'length check' reminds me of the commitment and love I put into my hair. Keep sharing your experiences; we can all learn from each other!
