Dealing with hand foot mouth disease (HFMD) as a stay-at-home mom can be quite challenging, especially during those early morning hours. From my personal experience, mornings require not just physical care but a lot of emotional support and patience. HFMD is a contagious viral illness that mainly affects young children and is characterized by fever, sores in the mouth, and a rash on the hands and feet. Managing these symptoms involves regular hydration, administering fever reducers as advised by a pediatrician, and keeping the child comfortable. Throughout the morning, I made sure to keep my child engaged with quiet activities that wouldn’t aggravate the discomfort, such as reading or watching favorite shows. Maintaining hygiene is crucial, so frequent hand washing and surface cleaning were part of our routine. I also kept supplies like saline spray and mouth rinses ready for soothing mouth sores. What stood out to me was the importance of emotional reassurance. Kids can feel quite scared and irritable when sick, so staying calm and comforting helps a lot. The experience also reminded me to prioritize self-care, even if briefly, to maintain my energy and patience during such stressful times. Sharing this realistic mom life moment shows that while caring for a sick child can be tough, it’s manageable with love, preparation, and understanding.
