Why I don’t celebrate 4th of July as an American
First off, I have to be home for animals because I live in Texas and despite living in a city where fireworks aren’t allowed, people don’t follow that a shoot off fireworks all around my home because Texas.
More importantly tho is the fact that I don’t see a reason to celebrate and I haven’t in years. We are supposed to be democracy (a democratic republic, but still). I see nothing democratic about what we are doing. Those in power are implementing rules that laugh in the face of democracy in fact. We have an election coming up between to dinosaurs who were hand picked by an elite few who align themselves with a certain party.
But truly, what is there to celebrate. The illusion of choice? The idea that we can turn the tides in November? I don’t know, but I think the founding fathers would drop dead at the sight of what we’ve turned their idea into.
