Saving Jessie’s Girl by Lauren Biel

Rating • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Spice • 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (my personal opinion, to each their own!)

Saving Jessie’s Girl is Dark, HEAVY and FULL of trauma, I had been wanting to read this since before she released it and I was NOT disappointed. I finished this in 2 hours, I could NOT put this book down. I read on KU but will be purchasing a physical copy of this book and it is now one of my top books. 🖤

Benji the Mute MMC with his beautiful soul and traumatic back story had my heart absolutely broken for him. Emmy who is our FMC, again another beautiful soul and such a fighter, I’ve never wanted to hug someone so much. I do wish we had gotten some more back story about her and her relationship with her brother & family.

If you are an animal lover like me please read this ‼️ SPOILER ‼️ Emmy has a kitten named Lily and the way Jessie was I was so scared he was going to harm the kitten in some way and unfortunately he does but he doesn’t not kill her! #BookReview #bookrecs #laurenbiel #darkromancereads🖤🖤🖤

... Read moreOkay, so if you're like me and saw 'Saving Jessie's Girl' by Lauren Biel popping up everywhere, you probably wondered if it could really live up to the hype, especially with that intense cover (you know, the one with the dark tones and purple accents that just screams 'dark romance'). Well, let me tell you, it absolutely does. When I say this book is dark and heavy, I mean it in the best possible way for a dark romance enthusiast. It's not just a superficial darkness; it delves deep into trauma and its lasting effects, particularly on the male main character, Benji. His backstory is truly heartbreaking, and Lauren Biel crafts it in a way that makes you feel every ounce of his pain and struggle. This isn't a light-hearted read, and honestly, that's what made it so compelling for me. It's the kind of book that grips you from the first page and doesn't let go, forcing you to confront difficult themes. And then there's Emmy, our female main character. She's not just some damsel in distress; she's a survivor, a fighter, and her resilience shines through even in the darkest moments. I found myself rooting for her constantly, wishing I could reach into the pages and give her a hug. The author does a fantastic job of developing her strength, even though I personally wished for a bit more insight into her family background to truly round out her character. Now, for the spice. Oh, the spice! If you're looking for a book that delivers on its promise of heat, 'Saving Jessie's Girl' will not disappoint. The chemistry between Benji and Emmy is palpable, and their intimate moments are written with a raw intensity that perfectly matches the overall tone of the story. It’s definitely a 5-pepper read in my book, but always remember, spice is subjective! One of the aspects that made this book a definite 5-star read for me was how quickly I devoured it. I literally finished it in two hours – I couldn't put it down! From the moment I started (which, according to the little note on my tablet, was on 05/23/2026 – I guess I was really ahead of my time!), I was completely immersed. The pacing is relentless, the plot twists keep you guessing, and the emotional rollercoaster is intense. I want to reiterate the trigger warnings. This book deals with significant trauma, including child abuse and animal harm. While the kitten, Lily, isn't killed, the harm depicted is still deeply upsetting. If these are triggers for you, please proceed with caution. However, if you appreciate a dark romance that explores complex characters, deals with heavy themes realistically (within the bounds of fiction, of course!), and provides a truly immersive reading experience, then 'Saving Jessie's Girl' is absolutely one for your TBR pile. It's now one of my top reads, and I've already ordered a physical copy because it's just that good.
