Nasturtiums

My Nasturtiums finally sprouted. I planted them months and months and months ago. Some seeds will sprout when they are ready.

... Read moreGrowing nasturtiums has been a truly rewarding experience for me, especially because they require patience and a bit of trust in the natural growing process. These vibrant flowers are not only easy to grow but also versatile — they add beautiful color to gardens and edible leaves and flowers that can spice up salads. One thing I've learned is that nasturtium seeds don’t always sprout immediately after planting. I planted mine months before I actually saw any signs of sprouting. This wait can be frustrating, but it's important to remember that some seeds need their own timing and conditions to germinate. It helps to plant them in well-drained soil with plenty of sunlight and to avoid overwatering. Once they sprout, nasturtiums grow quickly and can climb or trail, depending on the variety you choose. Regularly harvesting the leaves and flowers encourages more blooms, and their peppery taste offers a unique addition to dishes. They've become my go-to plant for both beauty and culinary use. For anyone trying to grow nasturtiums, my best advice is to be patient and consistent. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t see sprouts right away. Keep your seeds in favorable conditions, and soon you’ll enjoy these charming plants. They also attract beneficial insects, making them a natural companion plant in vegetable gardens. Overall, growing nasturtiums has not only enhanced my garden aesthetically but has also brought me closer to understanding the rhythms of nature. If you’re considering adding them to your garden, know that the wait is worth the burst of color and flavor they provide.
