jurassic? just got buzzed
I think this is the biggest biting fly of some sort I've ever seen .we have a saying here if you think something is on you it is.
Having encountered various biting insects over the years, I can confidently say that the one described here is notably large and intimidating. In many regions, biting flies can range from moderate to surprisingly large sizes, and their bites can be quite painful or irritating. One common piece of advice I've heard—and experienced myself—is that if you feel something crawling or buzzing on you, it's best to assume it's there and take prompt action rather than ignore it. In my experience, these large biting flies tend to be most active during warmer months or in wooded, humid areas. Wearing long sleeves, using insect repellents with DEET or natural alternatives, and avoiding wearing dark colors can help minimize encounters. Also, quickly removing the fly before it bites can prevent painful welts or allergic reactions. Another tip to consider is to remain calm and avoid swatting wildly. Aggressive movements sometimes provoke these flies to bite harder or attract more insects. Instead, gently brush them away or use a fly swatter methodically. Understanding the behavior of these flies also helps; many are attracted to sweat and certain scents, so maintaining good hygiene and avoiding strong fragrances can reduce attention from them. If you find yourself in a location where these flies are common, consider protective clothing and possibly using netting for outdoor activities. Overall, the key takeaway is vigilance and preparedness. Treat every sensation as potentially real and take steps quickly to address it. This mindset helps avoid discomfort and ensures you can enjoy outdoor experiences despite these intimidating insects.
