Adult Gestalt Language Processors Whisper??? Pt2

Why do gestalt language processors whisper their gestalts and/or echolalia?

Based on my clinical experience, I see one of two reasons. I believe that it could be a sensory preservation behavior. In order to gain more from the language they increase the intensity of how it is presented. I also believe it could be because they are trying to protect their gestalts that may have not been validated in the past.

Do you whisper echolalia or gestalts? Do you know why? Please share in the comments!

... Read moreGestalt language processing is an essential concept in understanding communication among neurodivergent individuals, particularly those on the autism spectrum. Adults who identify as gestalt language processors often use phrases and scripts they have heard before, mimicking them in context. Whispering these gestalts may serve multiple purposes, such as filtering sensory input or creating a safe space to express themselves. Additionally, rooted in their past experiences, many may whisper as a way of seeking validation for their speech patterns, due to previous instances where their attempts at expressing thoughts and feelings went unrecognized. Echolalia, a form of speech where individuals repeat phrases or sentences they have heard, can be a way of processing language and constructing meaning. For gestalt processors, whispered echolalia can filter the overwhelming nature of communication, allowing for a more personal and intimate interaction with language. By understanding these communication strategies, we can create more supportive environments for gestalt language processors and appreciate the nuances of their expressive capabilities. Engaging with the community and sharing experiences can also be beneficial. For those whispering echolalia or gestalts, it's crucial to discuss your feelings around this behavior. Have you felt validated in your communication? How does whispering impact your interactions with others? These discussions not only raise awareness about gestalt language processing but also help individuals feel less isolated in their experiences. So let's create a supportive dialogue that empowers neurodiverse individuals to express themselves freely and confidently.
