Book Review
Bought this book on a whim and totally glad I did. It’s got action, spice, banter, and loads more. It’s like a Sleepy Hollow vibe—dark and gritty.
This book follows Kat, our FMC, who is a witch and is preparing to attend college. She is a spirited, intelligent, and independent woman who has long felt confined by her circumstances. Additionally, she is deeply longing for her best friend, who has been missing.
Crane is a thoughtful and composed teacher, yet he is grappling with feelings of guilt and grief. He is drawn to Kat, who presents a meaningful challenge to him. Nevertheless, he remains guarded, keeping his heart closed following the disappearance of his loved one.
Having recently dived into Karina Halle’s ‘Mollow,’ I found it captivating how the book seamlessly blends elements of supernatural intrigue and emotional depth. The protagonist, Kat, embodies a unique mix of strength and vulnerability, making her journey into college and the unknown feel very real. I particularly appreciated the depiction of witchcraft grounded in personal growth rather than mere fantasy. The dynamic between Kat and Crane adds layers to the story—exploring themes of grief, healing, and complicated attraction, which reminded me of the taboo student-teacher trope but handled with sensitivity and complexity. The gothic atmosphere evokes a sense of eerie suspense akin to the classic Sleepy Hollow, enhanced by the book’s moody tone and rich descriptions. For fans of paranormal romance with a dark twist, this novel offers more than just supernatural drama; it delves into human emotions and the impact of loss, making the characters’ struggles relatable. The author’s skill in balancing action, banter, and emotional moments keeps the pace engaging. Additionally, the story’s cliffhanger ending leaves you eager for more, hinting at layers of mystery about the missing best friend and the secrets both main characters hide. In sum, ‘Mollow’ is an enthralling read that mixes witchcraft, gothic romance, and complex relationships. It sparks curiosity about the boundaries of love and the shadows that haunt us, making it a worthy pick for readers who love paranormal thrillers with heart and grit.
