MEET ARCHIE!!

Having Archie, my delightful Finnish Lapphund puppy, has truly been one of the most rewarding experiences. At six months old, he's a bundle of energy and intelligence, constantly reminding me why these rare breeds capture so many hearts. For anyone curious about life with a Finnish Lapphund, or even a Swedish Lapphund puppy, I'd love to share some insights from my journey with Archie. One of the first things you'll notice about a Lapphund, like my Archie, is their incredible intelligence. These dogs are incredibly smart, which makes training a joy, but also means they need consistent mental stimulation. I've found that short, engaging training sessions throughout the day work best, focusing on positive reinforcement. Archie picks up new commands so quickly, and he absolutely loves puzzle toys that challenge his brain. Without enough mental exercise, you might find your clever pup inventing his own (sometimes mischievous!) games. Their active nature is another prominent trait. Archie literally never seems to get tired! Daily walks and playtime are non-negotiable. We spend a lot of time outdoors, whether it's exploring new trails or playing fetch in the park. Finnish Lapphunds were originally bred for herding reindeer, so they have a natural stamina and a love for being active. If you're considering one of these beautiful dogs, be prepared for an active lifestyle. They thrive when they have a job to do or plenty of opportunities to run and play. Socialization has been key with Archie. He loves other dogs and always wants to engage, sometimes even taking charge in play. Early and continued exposure to various dogs, people, and environments has helped him grow into a well-adjusted and friendly companion. Lapphunds are generally very social creatures, often forming strong bonds with their families. They're known for being sweet and affectionate, making them wonderful family pets, provided their exercise and mental needs are met. Caring for a Finnish Lapphund also involves understanding their beautiful double coat. While stunning, it does require regular grooming to keep it healthy and free of mats. I brush Archie a few times a week, and more frequently during shedding seasons, to manage loose fur and prevent tangles. It’s a small effort for such a gorgeous coat, and he usually enjoys the attention. As a relatively rare breed, finding a reputable breeder was also an important first step, ensuring I brought home a healthy puppy with a good temperament. Overall, welcoming Archie into my home has been an adventure filled with endless love, laughter, and an appreciation for this truly special breed.
