Nights of the new moon are the perfect time to communicate with The Morrigan. I dressed my candle with some of her favorite herbs and flowers. Mugwart, red rose, and lily, and then set the red candle with black wax; her favorite colors.
In my tarot draw she gave me insight into my personal battles, showing me where I lack courage. The Morrigan is not one to hold back when calling you out, which is something I deeply appreciate about her. She brought me assurance, telling me I will be victorious in my battles as long as I listen to her guidance.

It's truly more than just a collection of objects; it's a dedicated portal for connection and intention, a place where you can regularly engage with her powerful energy.
When I first started, I wanted to ensure my altar truly honored her energy. Based on my experiences and what I've learned, here are some ideas for creating your own powerful Morrigan altar, going beyond just the basics.
Colors & Foundation: You'll notice in my New Moon petition setup, I gravitate towards red and black. These aren't just her favorite colors; they represent power, protection, and the depths of transformation. I often use a black cloth as a base, which helps to absorb negative energies and provides a stark contrast for the ritual items. Sometimes, I even find cloths with subtle moon and bird motifs, which feel incredibly resonant with her energy, reminding me of her connection to the cycles of life and death, and her bird forms.
Candles & Light: A lit red candle is almost always central to my altar. Red symbolizes passion, courage, and action – all qualities she embodies. Instead of just a plain holder, finding something like a pentagram holder can amplify the protective energy and sacred geometry, creating a strong focal point. Black candles are also excellent for banishing, shadow work, and absorbing negativity.
Offerings & Symbols: Beyond the mugwort, red rose, and lily I used, which are lovely for their protective and divinatory properties, The Morrigan appreciates offerings that reflect her warrior and sovereignty aspects. Think about placing a small bowl of fresh water, a bit of soil from a powerful place, or even a few crow or raven feathers (ethically sourced, of course!). I’ve also seen people include small, sharp objects (like a symbolic athame or even a thorn), or pieces of iron, which resonate with her martial aspect. The pinecones I sometimes use, as you can see in my setup, represent growth, resilience, and connection to the wild – qualities she helps us cultivate.
Divination & Guidance: As mentioned in my petition, tarot cards are indispensable for receiving her insights. Keeping a dedicated deck on her altar, or even just a few cards representing her (like the Queen of Swords, Justice, or Death), can deepen your connection and make it easier to consult her. I also like having some small bottles and jars on hand. These can hold special herbs, waters, or even written petitions to be empowered by the altar's energy, or to keep small offerings.
Personal Touches & The Role of Bruxaria: The most important thing is that your altar resonates with you and your unique connection to The Morrigan. Don't be afraid to add personal items that you feel she would appreciate, or that symbolize your journey with her. It could be a piece of artwork, a stone that calls to you, or even a small statue. This personal resonance is key in any bruxaria or witchcraft practice. Working with The Morrigan is about embracing your inner strength, facing your shadow, and standing in your truth. She doesn't mince words, but her guidance is always meant to empower you towards victory, just as she assured me. Setting up an altar is a beautiful way to honor her and create a consistent, sacred space for this profound work. It’s a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and deep spiritual connection, and your altar will evolve with you.
