Uterine Fibroid Surgery

I had to have an abdominal myomectomy so the recovery was 6-8 weeks. The surgery took about 4 hours and I stood in the hospital for 1 night. I recovered at home I slept and rested a lot and walked around my house as much as could. I did feel like a lost a lot of energy the first two weeks but eventually started to get strength. Let me know if you questions or if you are struggling with fibroids and unsure about the surgery.

... Read moreUterine fibroid surgery is a common procedure for women experiencing severe symptoms or complications due to fibroids. An abdominal myomectomy, which involves removing fibroids while preserving the uterus, typically requires a recovery time of about 6-8 weeks. It's essential to understand that each individual's recovery can vary significantly. Post-surgery, it's common to feel fatigued, particularly in the first few weeks as your body heals. Many patients report that engaging in gentle activities around the home, like walking, can help regain strength over time. It's also important to listen to your body and prioritize rest as necessary. For those considering fibroid removal surgery, discussing with your healthcare provider about the type of surgery suitable for you is crucial. Post-operative care, including diet, hydration, and managing pain, can significantly influence the recovery process. Additionally, joining support groups where others share their experiences can provide valuable advice and encouragement. Be sure to maintain regular follow-ups with your doctor to monitor your healing progress and address any concerns. Remember, recovery is a personal journey, and it's okay to seek support when needed.

I’m scheduled to have a open myomectomy surgery in January, but I’m a little nervous. The surgeon that is supposed to do my surgery really haven’t given me any information. Everything that I’ve learned so far besides the size of my fibroid and type of surgery Im having has been from people like you on the Internet and YouTube. Did you have to have a drain after the surgery? What supplies will need after the surgery? Silicone strips for fast healing what type of clothing? How were able to get relief when trying to go to sleep?
