... Read moreRed Velvet Sugar Cookies offer a delightful twist on traditional sugar cookies by incorporating the rich flavor and striking red color of classic red velvet cake. Achieving that signature taste without a cakey texture can be a challenge, but this recipe balances key ingredients such as unsweetened cocoa powder and red gel food coloring to deliver a perfect crumb and visual appeal. To enhance the flavor, the recipe uses distilled white vinegar which helps activate the baking soda, creating a slight tanginess that's characteristic of red velvet desserts. The combination of both an egg and an egg yolk adds moisture and richness, contributing to the cookies’ tender texture. Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes not only makes it easier to handle but also allows the flavors to meld and prevents spreading during baking for sturdier edges with soft centers. For an extra touch, rolling the dough balls in granulated sugar before baking gives the cookies a slight crunch and a sparkling finish. Baking at 350°F for just 12 to 13 minutes ensures the edges are set while the centers remain soft and chewy – much like bakery-style red velvet cookies. These cookies are perfect for holiday celebrations or as a year-round treat. Pair them with a glass of milk or cream cheese frosting for added indulgence. Using red gel food coloring is preferable over liquid varieties because it provides a more vibrant color without altering the dough’s consistency. If you want to experiment, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or espresso powder to deepen the flavor, or incorporate mini chocolate chips for extra texture and richness. This recipe’s versatility means you can customize the cookie to match your taste preferences while still maintaining that classic red velvet charm. Overall, these red velvet sugar cookies are a festive, flavorful, and easy-to-make treat that captures the essence of bakery-quality baked goods in a homemade version ideal for sharing with friends and family.

Looks absolutely yummy! I would just have to add a little smear of Cream Cheese Frosting or glaze though.😊
