Summer Harvest

I’m in my garden era and I love it here! 🥰

Is anyone else gardening this year? This is my 3rd year and I think my best year yet! I’ve learned so much and each year I try to grow something different. My new addition this year was honey nut squash.

If you have a garden, what all are you growing? Also, do you plan to grow fall crops this year?

... Read moreGardening has truly become a fulfilling passion for me over the past three years. This summer, adding honey nut squash to my garden was a rewarding experience because it’s not only delicious but also fairly easy to grow with the right care. I started by preparing rich, well-drained soil and making sure my squash plants received plenty of sunlight and consistent watering. One crucial tip I found helpful is to keep an eye out for pests like squash bugs early on, as they can quickly damage your plants. Using natural remedies and encouraging beneficial insects helped me keep my garden organic and healthy. I also experimented with companion planting by growing marigolds and nasturtiums nearby, which seemed to deter some pests and added a lovely aesthetic. Now that it's summer harvest time, I’m excited to try preserving some of my produce to enjoy through the fall and winter. Canning and freezing vegetables are great ways to extend the garden's bounty. For those thinking about fall crops, planning ahead is key. Root vegetables like carrots and turnips, as well as leafy greens such as kale and spinach, are excellent options that thrive in cooler temperatures. Sharing garden progress and learning from fellow gardeners online has also enriched my experience. Whether you’re just starting out or seasoned in your garden era, embracing each season's unique challenges and rewards keeps the passion alive. I encourage everyone to try growing something new each year — the sense of accomplishment and connection to nature is truly priceless.
