Candied yams are a beloved side dish, especially during holiday celebrations. This recipe combines tender sweet potatoes with a rich blend of sugars and spices, resulting in a sweet and comforting dish. When choosing sweet potatoes, look for firm and smooth ones. Peeling and slicing them into even rounds ensures even cooking. Caramelizing the sugars during cooking enhances the flavor and gives a lovely glossy finish. Don't forget to experiment with spices! Adding a hint of allspice or cloves can elevate the taste profile. For a nutty flavor, consider topping the final dish with toasted pecans or marshmallows before browning them in the oven. Serve your candied yams warm, as they pair beautifully with a variety of main courses, from roasted turkey to glazed ham. If you have leftovers, they can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat them in the oven for best results! This dish not only provides sweetness but also adds a nutritious touch to your meals, as sweet potatoes are high in vitamins and fiber. Enjoy making this traditional dish that brings everyone together.
