I customised my engagement ring❤️
Customising my engagement ring took me 3 full months😅😂
and yes, I changed my mind a lot..
But it was also one of the most meaningful parts of the journey 🤍

Here’s everything I learnt and what you should consider when customising your engagement ring:
1️⃣ Metal
At Jann Paul, iirc, options include white gold, yellow gold, rose gold & platinum.
I narrowed mine to white gold vs platinum for that silvery look
• White gold- shinier, but needs replating over time
• Platinum- naturally white, develops a soft patina, more durable & hypoallergenic
I chose platinum for longevity & low maintenance✌️
Good to note: some people may be sensitive to mixed alloys in mixed gold and develop bad allergic reactions
so platinum may be a safer option if you intend to wear your ring frequently and for a long time!

2️⃣ Main stone style
• Solitaire (1 stone)
• Toi et moi (2 stones)
• Trilogy (3 stones)
I chose the classic solitaire for a classy, timeless look

3️⃣ Band design
• Plain band
• Pavé band
• Textured / unique designs
I wanted my band to look 'clean' and muted from the top so I went with a plain band + slight taper
But I still wanted a little sparkle 🤫
so I added a hidden side pavé to achieve a ring that looks minimal upfront but extra bling up close🤭✨
Pro tip: tapers help draw attention to the centre stone from the top view 👀

4️⃣ Prongs (tiny detail, big impact)
Both number + type matters
More prongs → more security
but it may also "take up space" and make your centre stone look smaller
Different types of prongs also achieve a very different look and feel to the ring. Options include claw, round, heart, bezel, halo
I chose 4 claw prongs for that refined, classic look.
Definitely risking security for aesthetic for this one🙈 HAHA

5️⃣ Hidden halo or no halo
Hidden halo → more secure
No hidden halo → cleaner aesthetic, focus is on your centre stone
Pro tip: Consider a pavé hidden halo for extra sparkle on the sides!
I chose no hidden halo in the front and back
and added bridge support on the left and right
Real talk: I still worry about snagging it sometimes😭
but I love being able to see my full diamond from the front and back

6️⃣ Cathedral vs Classic setting
This took me the LONGEST 😭
Cathedral → more structure, looks more elegant
Classic → clean, minimal
After trying both so many times (shoutout to how patient my Jann Paul SA was 🥹), I chose the classic high setting
and… no regrets🙌

7️⃣ Personal touch (my favourite part 💗)
I always loved the idea of birthstones
Originally thought of hiding it inside the band but my fiancé asked “why hide something so meaningful?” 🥹
So we placed our birthstones aquamarine (March) and blue topaz (December) on the outside
And honestly, this is my favourite detail!!!
(even more than the diamond 💎🤍 )

When deciding on the main stone style, I found that opting for a solitaire gives a timeless and classy appeal, but other options like the trilogy or toi et moi styles can add more symbolism or sparkle depending on personal taste. It’s also worth considering how prong style and number play a big role in balancing security with aesthetics. Less prongs can let more light shine on the diamond but might compromise some protection. Band design was a surprising area for me. I wanted something simple from the top but with a hidden touch of sparkle, so I added pavé diamonds subtly on the side. It’s a great way to keep the ring elegant but with a secret glimmer that’s special to you. Another meaningful addition was incorporating birthstones on the outside of the band. Initially, we thought about hiding them inside, but placing them visibly felt more personal and meaningful — a beautiful way to symbolize our bond beyond the central diamond. Also, experimenting with cathedral versus classic settings took a lot of trial but ultimately led me to choose classic for its clean look and high setting that really made the diamond stand out. Throughout the process, having a patient and knowledgeable jeweler helped tremendously, especially with detailed questions and trying different configurations. Plus, it’s reassuring to know you can always ask for tweaks along the way. Finally, while customization can feel overwhelming at times, the joy of creating a ring that truly reflects your style, story, and relationship is incomparable. I wholeheartedly recommend going bespoke to anyone ready for this beautiful, meaningful adventure.
