“Do it for yourself”
One of my mantras for the year is to “do it for myself”.
I have no cares about societal expectations at this point. I’m doing what is best for me and mine and raising my kids to be the same.
Too often, we do things because we think we should or because it’s what our friends/family want from us. Too often, this leads to a lifetime of unhappiness. A job/career we don’t want, debt, whatever whatever.
The goal is to do what resonates with ME. Anything else and I’m off my game.
Basketball star LeBron James emphasizes that maintaining focus is crucial not just for success in sports but for life. He famously stated, "I get off my game when I start playing for others rather than playing for myself." This sentiment resonates deeply in our personal journeys. When we shift our intentions away from our own passions to what we believe will impress others, we often stray from our true paths. Living authentically means returning to our core values and actions that align with who we genuinely are, not what society prescribes. Embrace your individuality, and remember that expressing your true self is not a selfish act, but a brave step towards a fulfilling life. Like women's rights activist Gloria Steinem, honor your journey in seeking the highest, truest expression of yourself, asking daily how you can best embody your most authentic self.
