Are Nurses Safe from Workplace Violence?
I’ll be honest, I never imagined that as a nurse, I’d have to worry about my own safety while trying to care for others. 🏥
A few months ago, I was working a night shift when a patient became aggressive. Verbal threats turned into physical tension, and suddenly I was scrambling not just to provide care, but to protect myself and my coworkers. That night stuck with me and it made me realize how common this problem really is.
👩⚕️ What I’ve learned:
• Staffing shortages make tense situations even harder to manage.
• Security measures help, but they’re not enough on their own.
• Emotional support after incidents is critical, no one should face this alone.
It’s scary to admit, but workplace violence is real, and nurses are on the front lines every day. We care for others, yet sometimes the system doesn’t fully protect us.
