Maastricht, Netherlands
On day 4 of my 2 week trip to Germany, I went to Maastricht with my friend and her family. There is a crazy amount of stores and Maastricht. So we walked around and went shopping and looked at all the different types of stores.
After we went to this beautiful bookstore that used to be a cathedral. They have books in Dutch and English. Kids books, records, cds and other things. There’s also a cafe inside and definitely a must see.
After looking around they took me to one of their favorite restaurants. I’m a picky eater so it wasn’t really for me but it was still good. Before we left it started pouring down rain which made me feel right at home.

Maastricht truly captured my heart with its vibrant street scenes and historic charm. From the moment you step onto its famous cobblestone streets, you're transported to a city brimming with character. I absolutely loved wandering through the narrow alleys and wide plazas, taking in the historical buildings that line every turn. You'll find so many hidden gems just by letting yourself get a little lost! One of the absolute highlights for me was the incredible cafe culture. Everywhere you look, there are bustling outdoor cafes spilling onto the sidewalks, inviting you to sit down and soak in the atmosphere. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee or settling in for a long lunch, enjoying a drink at one of these street cafes is an essential Maastricht experience. The city's main squares, like Vrijthof Square, are particularly fantastic for this. Imagine sitting under a bright red umbrella, sipping your drink, and watching the world go by – it's pure bliss. The energy of these places, with bicycles parked nearby and people chatting, really makes you feel like you're part of something special in Maastricht Netherlands. Beyond the cafes, the city offers a fantastic shopping experience. While the article mentioned diverse stores, I'd suggest seeking out the independent boutiques and specialized shops that often sit tucked away on the historic streets. You can find everything from trendy fashion to unique local crafts, making it perfect for finding a special souvenir or just enjoying some window shopping. And of course, I have to mention the cathedral bookstore again – it's truly unforgettable! Housed within a stunning former cathedral, it’s not just a place to buy books, but an architectural marvel. Walking in, you'll be amazed by the high vaulted ceilings, large arched windows with intricate glass, and the multi-level layout filled with bookshelves. They even have sections for CDs and records, adding to its unique charm. It’s definitely a place where you could spend hours just browsing and admiring the incredible transformation of the space. Even when the rain started pouring down towards the end of my day, it somehow added to the romantic, old-world feel of Maastricht. It just goes to show that this city is charming no matter the weather. My top tip for visiting is to wear comfortable shoes for all the walking on those beautiful cobblestone streets and be sure to venture beyond the main thoroughfares to discover its true magic. Don't forget to pause at an outdoor cafe, especially in the old town, and just observe the lively street life. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget!
