Happy 13th
My son turned 13 today and I remember the day I had him because of course 13 years ago my life changed. My son was born 3.5 months early and he stayed in the NiCU for 3.5 months. For his first month of life I was not able to hold him because he was in an incubator. I made to be with my son every day that I could while he was in the hospital. Once he came home from the hospital I felt so complete. As he got older I just kept telling myself that I really was a mom and not to waste any time because they grow up so quickly. His first day of daycare was bittersweet because we hadn’t been apart a lot. Then it became his first day of school. Watching my son become this little person that I helped create was the best feeling. Then we he started having challenges I knew that I had to be his backbone. While my mom’s health was slowly declining I was watching my son grow up. Looking at how much love he has for his grandmother who has dementia and he wants so much for her to not be alone and wishes she could return to our home makes everything so touching. He’s very caring and passionate even when he doesn’t try to fit in with what everyone else is doing. Having a child on the spectrum can be hard but it has opened my eyes to so much. We all have our differences but it’s how we adapt that matters. Happy Birthday Son. Hope to see what your next few years will be like.
