Maintenance Week
You may now address me an PVAMU Alumna 💜, but first lests talk about all the maintenance prep that was needed to walk the stage and get ready for my grad pics. Cheers to graduation!
Wow, graduation is such an exciting time, but it can also feel incredibly overwhelming with everything you need to get done! My article already touched on the essential beauty maintenance—like getting my nails done at 'Nails of America' and making sure my hair and eyebrows were absolutely on point for those grad pics (it really felt like a whole 'MAINTENANCE WEEK' dedicated just to that!). But trust me, from my own experience, there's so much more to a successful graduation prep than just looking fabulous. I've put together a more comprehensive 'graduation to do list' based on my journey, hoping it helps you navigate these final weeks and months with less stress and more excitement. First things first, beyond the glam, let’s talk about the academic side. I remember feeling a bit lost, so here’s what I learned is crucial: 1. Academic & Administrative Checks (Don't Miss These Deadlines!): Confirm Degree Requirements: Meet with your academic advisor one last time to double-check that you've fulfilled every single credit and requirement. No last-minute surprises! Apply for Graduation: There’s usually a specific application process and deadline. Mark it on your calendar! Clear Any Holds: Check your student account for outstanding fees or fines that could prevent you from graduating or getting your diploma. Order Official Transcripts: You'll likely need these for job applications or grad school. Order them early, as processing can take time. RSVP for the Ceremony: Make sure you and your guests are counted for seating and tickets, if applicable. 2. Cap & Gown Essentials (Your Official Uniform!): Order Early: Get your cap, gown, and tassel well in advance. Check for any specific stoles or cords you've earned. Try It On & Prep: Ensure it fits! You might need to iron or steam your gown to get rid of wrinkles. Decorate Your Cap: If allowed, this is a fun way to express yourself. Start planning your design to make your 'graduation edi' photos truly unique. 3. Graduation Day Logistics (Smooth Sailing!): Guest Arrangements: Help family and friends with travel, accommodation, and ceremony tickets. Provide them with a clear schedule. Transportation & Parking: Plan your route to campus and figure out parking well in advance. Post-Ceremony Plans: Decide on where you'll celebrate afterward – dinner, a small gathering? Book reservations if needed. Emergency Kit: Pack a small bag with essentials: safety pins, tissues, a phone charger, a small water bottle, and any makeup for touch-ups. 4. Post-Graduation Planning (The Next Chapter!): Update Your Resume & LinkedIn: This is key! Highlight your new degree and any relevant experiences. Job or Grad School Search: Keep applying and networking. Don't stop until you've secured your next step. Housing & Finances: If you're moving, start planning residential logistics. Create a post-grad budget and understand your student loan repayment options. Healthcare: Figure out your health insurance situation once you're no longer covered by student plans. 5. Personal & Emotional Prep (Savor the Moment!): Thank You Notes: Take time to write heartfelt notes to professors, mentors, family, and friends who supported you. Cherish Friendships: Spend quality time with your college friends before everyone goes their separate ways. Reflect & Celebrate: This is a huge milestone! Acknowledge all your hard work and celebrate your achievements. Take all the pictures – create your own lasting 'graduation edi' memories! I hope this expanded checklist gives you a better handle on everything involved in preparing for graduation. It's a busy time, but so incredibly rewarding. You've got this!
