Foils for dimension. Global bleach to transform
Foils for dimension. Global bleach for transformation: From brunette to blonde —lifted the right way.
Going from dark brown hair to blonde can be achieved using either foil bleaching or on-head (global) bleaching, and each method produces a different result. Dark brown hair contains strong underlying pigments, so it usually lifts through red, orange, and yellow stages before reaching a lighter blonde.
Foil bleaching lightens the hair in small, controlled sections placed inside foil packets. This helps the bleach process evenly while leaving some natural color between strands, creating depth and dimension. Because it is more controlled, foils are often the safer choice for starting the transition from dark brown to blonde. Several sessions are usually needed to gradually lift the hair while keeping it healthy.
On-head bleaching applies bleach to the entire head of hair to remove the natural pigment for a uniform blonde result. This method is commonly used for all-over shades like platinum. However, because the bleach is applied everywhere and scalp heat speeds up processing, it can be more intense and requires careful timing to avoid damage. Many stylists begin with foils to lighten the hair gradually and may move to a full bleach later if a lighter, more even blonde is desired.
