🧶 support small businesses, not sweatshops

✨Crochet✨🧶

Crochet is growing in popularity by the day. As someone who has been crocheting for 17 years, I couldn’t be more thrilled and terrified.

Crochet is hard on the joints in your hands and wrists. It cannot be replicated by machine. That means that every crochet item takes hours (and I mean hours) and was made completely by hand.

Unfortunately MANY large companies are selling crochet super cheap and the person who made it is not getting paid for their hours of work.

If you see someone selling crochet and it seems overpriced, just know it’s not. They are probably undercharging even still. Instead of saying it’s “too expensive” maybe just say it’s out of your budget. 💛

Crochet is cute, but I highly recommend shopping on Etsy or at your local markets for crochet items. Shop ethically, it’s worth it. 🫶

... Read moreCrochet has seen a remarkable resurgence in popularity, thanks to its unique charm and the artisanal skill involved. Each crochet piece is crafted entirely by hand, making every item a labor of love that often takes hours to complete. Unfortunately, many large corporations flood the market with cheap, machine-made alternatives, undermining the hard work of dedicated artisans. When shopping for crochet items, choosing local vendors or platforms like Etsy supports ethical practices and ensures that creators receive fair compensation for their time and talent. It's crucial to understand that prices for authentic crochet goods reflect the skill and effort that go into them, not just the materials. By choosing to support small businesses, you can help preserve the tradition of handmade craftmanship and contribute to a more sustainable, ethical marketplace. Moreover, handmade items often carry a personal touch that mass-produced products simply cannot replicate. This not only gives your purchases more character but also fosters community relationships as local artists share their passion with buyers. Remember, a higher price tag on a handmade crochet item is not an indicator of overpricing; it often reflects the true value of craftsmanship. Supporting small businesses means supporting creativity, individuality, and fair trade practices, ensuring that artisans can continue to thrive in a commercial ecosystem that often overlooks their worth.
