Even just one night of poor sleep can reduce the body's insulin sensitivity, meaning the same doses of insulin become less effective. This can cause correction doses to have little impact, making glucose tougher to manage. On top of that, sleep deprivation also alters hunger-regulating hormones: it raises ghrelin, the hormone that increases appetite, while decreasing leptin, the hormone that signals fullness.
