NYC unwritten rules for those coming~

🛑🛑🛑 NEVER, EVER 🛑🛑🛑
stop in the middle of the sidewalk.
Lost? Move to the side and Google it.
Texting? Side.
Deep life conversations? Side.
New Yorkers move faster than NY traffic. We love you, but the ten second could cost me a bacon egg and cheese spot at the bodega
All jokes aside, most of us are speed running life-work , class, MTA delays. 10 seconds can absolutely be the different between "on time" and "I'm so sorry"
📍DON'T ASK US FOR DIRECTIONS.📍 HEAR ME OUT: I want to help... if I remembered street names.
We don't send addresses to our hangout spots, we just say things like "meet by the place with the bomb ass sponge cakes" or "across from the fire taco truck" what do you do then? ✅ USE CITYMAPPER. It tells you EVERYTHING: which section of the train to stand in, which exit to use, and how to avoid accidentally walking 12 blocks the wrong way like a side quest.
🍻🌮🥘🥗🍱 DON’T ONLY EAT AT TOURIST SPOTS. 🍕🍜🍛
Not saying they’re bad, but if you want to skip hour-long lines and get the real NYC experience, walk 2–3 blocks off the main streets. That’s where the gems are.
Example: If I’m forced to be in Times Square against my will, I go to Tatsuda Omakase, then hit a bar around the corner.
Do I know the bar’s name? No.
Do I know exactly where it is? Absolutely. 😭
✅DO✅: Respect the diversity and culture here.
You’ll hear different languages, see different cuisines, shops, habits, and vibes—that’s what makes NYC NYC.
If you walk into H Mart and side-eye my ajummas and ahjussis in the fish section, I will throw hands—and I’m not even Korean.
Same energy for my halal bros and taco legends.
You don’t have to like everything you try, but you do NOT disrespect our family.❤️
✅ DO: Pack for multiple seasons.
NYC weather is more bipolar than my mom.
It can be 50°F at noon and 20°F at night.
In summer? It’s hot outside and freezing inside because the AC is fighting for its life like my wallet at the end of every month.
Layer up. Always.
✅ DO: Dress up and have fun.
Wear the outfit that’s been sitting in your closet “waiting for an occasion.”
THIS IS THE OCCASION.
We New Yorkers act like we don’t care, but internally we’re like:
“imma need the link to that fit asap" 👀
Slay, take pics, live your best life—
just don’t stop in the middle of the sidewalk. 🥰📸
we love you and welcome to NYC ❤️🥰 wishing everyone a happy new year! 🎊
